I am a sales representative for a lighting company. My job duties are to keep my given clients updated with lighting technology, do presentations, and to reach out to potential clients. I have always generated sales and there is proof in my work. One of my two principals had always commended me and gave me praise for doing a good job. Out of the blue today, I was pulled into the boardroom by the two owners and was told I am no longer a good fit and that I was to leave.
It felt like I got hit by a train so I had no idea what to say. Everyone in the building was practically a close friend at this point and leaving damaged so much emotionally. I was and still am in shock. They told me it wasn’t personal but I strongly feel like it was because months ago they hired a new sales person with no prior experience compared to my 7 years of sales experience and truth is, he was much better looking then I and we were both of the age of 25. Going to add that he is somewhat related to the one principal (nieces boyfriend) and has no education.
I feel at a loss and I can’t sleep. This day has been the worst and I just need some advice on how to move forward. They said a reason I wasn’t a good fit is because I wasn’t a team player which makes 0 sense because multiple employees called me to ask what happened and couldn’t agree at all that I wasn’t a team player.
I’m so lost. I live in Alberta, Canada. Any advice on how to deal with this would be great. Thank you strangers.
