I get allergy shots on a weekly basis.
When I first started, they said they had to make custom vials of everything that I was allergic to and I would use those. Cost me $350 per vial which lasts about 6 months. Then I have to pay the $15 copay each time.
So fast forward I’m talking to someone in the lobby about how expensive these vials are, they told me I could use the “community vials” which were no additional fee other than the copay. So I asked to switch and they said yes, but once my vials were used up.
So I finish my vials and go on the “community vials” for about a year. One night I show up 5 minutes before they closed but the receptionist said no problem. I go to the nurse who gets sassy with me saying I should have been there earlier and she put everything away already. I apologized and I got the shots.
A couple times later the same nurse goes to give me my shots and says “back to individual vials eh?” I said no, but she said she ordered them for me because I had met my deductible and that was their policy. I informed her that I still have not met my deductible (nor will I this year, $4,500 remaining) and I never asked to go back. She said it was too late and since they ordered these that I had to finish them before going back to the community vials.
I don’t know what to do because I just got the bill for $375 (gotta love when prices go up). These shots are working and I tried calling other allergy centers but I would have to restart all the way at the bottom. I’m so frustrated because I feel the nurse ordered these vials because she had to pull out the equipment that one day when she was ready to go home. I never asked her, or signed anything saying I wanted these vials. Ugh....
Thanks.
P.S. These vials contain the things that I'm allergic to. Each vial lasts about 4 months. They do use new needles for every shot, so the "community" still gets new needles
