I've been working the night shift at a gas station for the past 4 years. My city has (one of?) the most coronavirus cases in NY state. I've still been risking my health going to work every day, as I'm paid hourly and have bills to pay.
Business has been slow the past few days, there are much fewer drivers on the road than usual. Today my employer told me not to come in anymore. I work with one other guy and my boss doesn't want to pay two employees when there's only enough work for one. Said he'll call me when he needs me again, but nobody knows how long this will last.
Again, the station will remain open, they just don't want to pay two people when they can just pay one.
Am I eligible for unemployment? If so should I file immediately?
Part time job, NY state. Please let me know if you need more information, and sorry if this isn't the right sub to post this in.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
