Hi there. I’ve only been in the US a couple years and I’ve only been out of school (and therefore out of my college’s medical clinic) for a few months.
Back in July, I went to a clinic to have a prescription re-filled. I hadn’t had this prescription filled since I left university, so it had been a few months. I know this particular drug is heavily policed in the US, so I brought my empty pill bottles and my documents from the psychologist when I was originally diagnosed with this disorder. The doctor commended me for bringing this proof, but just the same made me take a urine test to prove I wasn’t drug-seeking or whatever. Fine.
Immediately after that, I ended up changing jobs very suddenly (and therefore insurance providers) and moved from CO to TX. My old roommate forwarded me some mail that had arrived since I left, and boom. $388 bill for this urine test. To add insult to injury, because I had to wait for this stupid test to be processed, I wasn’t able to pick up my drugs before I moved. So now I’m on the hook to the tune of damn near $400 for prescriptions I STILL don’t even have.
Is there anything I can do? The bill I received from the diagnostic company says that it was denied by my insurance carrier because the services were not covered under my policy.
Since I don’t work at that job and therefore don’t have that insurance anymore, is it any good talking to them? Do I call the laboratory company? I tried talking to the clinic I went to originally and they were not very helpful. By that I mean they put me on hold and left me there for a half hour.
Please help!
