I'll admit we use our Brita filters longer than the recommended time, but even when we're done with them, we've found another use: carbon filters for the fridge!
We just put the used filter in the fridge in a corner or out-of-the-way place and no smells. Why buy a charcoal fridge filter when you basically have one right there!
