Obligatory, not sure if this is the right place to ask this but i this was the best place I could think of.
So a bit of background, I’m currently in my second year in a development program and I recently had my annual review. I received a very positive review from my manager but was informed that I would not be bonus eligible for this year. To be honest I was very surprised to hear this and more than a bit annoyed. I was not bonus eligible last year but that made sense to me as I had only been with the company for about 3 months at the time (all bonus talks for the company are done at the same time). This year though, I thought given my very positive evaluation and having been here a full year I would be eligable. After a bit of research 1st year analysts in my field get around an average of an 8% bonus (idk how reliable this is but it seems rightish).
I guess my question is a two parts
1) would it be unprofessional of me to ask my manager why I was not considered bonus eligible?
2) Is it unfair for me to be upset that I wasn’t considered?
I would also greatly appreciate any advise you all might have for reaching out to my manager as this is something that I’m not super comfortable doing.
