My mom is only 54 and unfortunately my stepdad just passed away from very aggressive brain cancer he was only diagnosed with a month ago. He was bringing home almost $3,000 a month as a locksmith for the police department on campus while she was bringing home roughly $2,000. She’s a medical coder and works full time. He had no will, no savings, no life insurance.
Mortgage - $560 Car - $580 (upside down, car worth 20k max, they owe 30k) Food - $300 Utilities $555 Credit Cards, in his name only - $500 Insurance - $200 (might go up now that she has to get her own) Gas to and from work - $200 Student Loan - $100 Phone - $174 Internet - $64
They unknowingly were overpaid by his disability last year, so she owes $11,000. They just live paycheck to paycheck though. She has the waiver form but it’s daunting.
I just don’t even know where to begin. We’ve already cancelled cable and signed her up with all my streaming services. I don’t even know the mountain of medical debt they’ve got coming.
Any and all advice is very much appreciated.
