Hello there. Not sure if this is the right subreddit for this but I’ll just get right to the point and you can all lead me to the right sub if needed.
My girlfriend got kicked out of her abusive parents’ home. Fast forward to now, living with me for months, she checked her credit card app and noticed other accounts under it. Turns out her parents have opened a credit card under her name. Only reason how she knew was that her mom’s phone number was connected to it. It was never activated, however.
She contacted her bank, the credit card company, and they were able to close the account down. She also filed a police report for fraudulent activity. But she’s still worried that they might do something with her SSN and is stressing out about changing it completely.
Is there anything else she should be doing? I’m also not too familiar with identity theft or anything of that sort but her main worry is them having access to everything else.
