I quit my job 3 weeks ago (right after Labor Day) after being with the company for 6 years, and my employer was pretty upset about it. Like wouldn't even look me in the eye as I made rounds telling everyone goodbye. The following week, I received a pay stub with the entire amount in the Insurance Deduction line and $0.00 in the Net Pay line. When I called and talked to the secretary she said the entire amount went towards insurance, and that the company paid for 2 weeks, I paid for my full 4 weeks, plus the 2 weeks the company was supposed to pay (the company and the employee each pay 50%). I was never asked if this was ok, and I never gave them permission to do it. Can they legally do this? It is my money, and I'd rather have it and go without insurance for a month until it kicks in at my new job. Any advice is welcome, I've never had the need for a lawyer before and I'm not sure how this works. I am in Iowa.
