Last June, I applied for and received the Capital One Journey card with a $300 credit limit. 6 months later (in December), I received a small credit limit increase to $500. I feel like I once read on their site to wait 6 months for a better chance of getting another increase, so I applied for one last month and was declined with the following reason:
A credit limit increase is currently not available upon request because Capital One is evaluating account activity at assigned credit limits.
The document says to check their FAQ, but that reason isn't listed their. I decided to wait a month, and applied for an increase again a few days ago, and got the same reason.
I have made every one of my payments on time and I pay the balance in full every month. This is my only credit card, or credit in general. I pulled my Equifax report from annualcreditreport.com and everything there looks fine (and also in Capital One's CreditWise). I have called them a few times about this and get told something like: "that's strange, try again another time." The most recent person I talked was a supervisor. I was told that sometimes you just don't ever get a credit line increase again, and it'd be better to try to apply for a new card since credit limit increases are entirely automated and no one can really give me insight into what is going on and what specifically is being evaluated. I am concerned about applying for a new card because I don't want to have another hard inquiry, but I've only had two in the last two years, so maybe that isn't an issue?
Should I keep trying to apply for credit limit increases with Capital One just try to get a new card? If a new card is better, what kind of cards should I be looking for at this point? I am rather disappointed with Capital One's poor customer service and would like to try to avoid them if possible.
