So I am a newlywed and my wife works as a nanny.
I just found out that she hasn't paid taxes on her income while working for a family for the past 9 years. They give her a paycheck but nothing is taken out and she isn't given a W2 or anything like that.
I want to file my own taxes but I now have to file as married. Even if I file separately, I have to provide her name, SS#, etc.
Will this alert the IRS to her situation?
What should we do? I can't imagine the amount of money they would want.
Please help. Any and all advice appreciated.
