Hi there, I was wondering what kind of furniture I should be looking to get, and was also wondering what your furniture situations are like.
Right now, we have a one bedroom. We got a puppy last march who had a chewing habit and so I'm thankful that the cheap pressed board furniture were the only casualties. Puppy is no longer a chewer!
We are moving from 1 bedroom 1 bath shoebox to 2 bed 2 bath next Saturday. We don't plan on decking out the guest room, at least not yet, but we are in desperate need of storage solutions, like proper dressers that fit our clothes and items. We want to get some nicer pieces, but again, we're probably going to move again soon when I have my career as well.
My parents also have a ton of high end furniture in storage for us when we get our first house, so we don't need to worry about furniture that would be buy it for life. We can't get those items now as they are on the other side of the country and we don't have the room for many of the pieces.
We do, however, want to get some furniture that doesn't necessarily look like dorm furniture. What do you guys suggest? Doesn't need to last forever which I realize is a dangerous middle point, but am looking for some credible websites or stores to get some dressers and tables and such. I'm in Miami and went to salvation army a few times but their stuff is way overpriced and look way worse than lightly worn.
Just would love to hear from everyone: where did you get your furniture? Over how long? What do you suggest for a young couple trying to move away from those plastic 'drawers' but don't want to break the bank? have luck with cragislist?? Though we have small cars, so that's a concern. Any tips on furniture buying appreciated!!
If interested, here are some items we're looking to get:
-
dressers, around 2 pieces, perhaps more
-
living room table (perhaps. Maybe a jelly cabinet for now due to space constraints)
-
loveseat and/or gaming chair
-
large area rugs
-
coffee/side tables
So far, "adulting" has been stressful but incredible exciting. We have our entire budget set up and it's looking amazing. Especially as job offers have been coming in. Feeling more established every day.
