I was on my mom's cell phone plan with sprint. My portion was only $35 a month for unlimited talk and text and I had a paid for phone. The plan was under my mother's name and my sister was also on it. I paid my monthly portion on time but my mother would always get behind on her portion. Between her and my sister it was over $200 a month with the tablets and phones they had on the plan.
The phone was constantly under threat of being shut off because she didn't pay and my career requires my coworkers to be able to reach me quickly. This forced me to loan my mother money to pay her portion of the bill which I would than have to wait three months to get back. Than after she paid me back she would get behind again. Rinse and repeat every few months.
I finally said enough.
I was able to keep my number and went on my own plan with sprint. I needed to keep my number for work purposes. The unlimited talk and text plan was $60ish but I got on autopay and a discount through my employer so now it's 50ish. Yes, I'm paying an extra $15 a month for the same service I used to pay $35 for. But now when my mother complains about the cell phone potentially being turned off I can just think, it's not my circus and it's not my monkeys. So much stress is gone just from making a simple move. I'm willing to pay that extra money for that piece of mind.
