Obvious throwaway is obvious.

A small back story. I am 29 years old. I have a degree in electrical engineering with a focus on automotive and a degree in business. A series of poor choices lead me to get fired from that position and unable to obtain work in any field like that for the next 5-7 years at the very least.

So for about a period of 2 years, I made decent money. 65k year roughly in the midwest USA for the first year, then I got on at a oil company and was making 130k before I was let go due to my own actions. I never had money growing up, so naturally I spent it all and didn't save a dime.

The last few years I've going paycheck to paycheck and doing some bartending for extra cash when I could.

Anyway, back in 2013 when I was making money and buying all sorts of fun toys, I got into the bitcoin mining game. I call it a game, cause it was fun, allowed me to tinker with electronics and see some sort of "results." The results being the BTC, they were worth about $20-25USD then, and I was making money so it was just for fun.

The last few years I totally forgot about them until I saw a "Now accepting Bitcoin" sticker at a place here about 6 months ago. I thought, hey, I have some of those on and hard drive... if only I knew which hard drive.

Well, about 3 weeks ago, I found the hard drive. 1xx.xxxxxxxx BTC.

As of right now, Bitcoin is selling for roughly $7000USD per bitcoin. My math brings me to just over a million USD.

What do I do? I'm thinking of selling 1/4 of it, so 250k to get me out of this hole I am in. Leaving some there, and turning some into traditional investments. Is this wrong? I am in debt about 47k with student loans and drive a Piece of crap car (1997 pontiac) that needs about $200-500 every 6 months to stay on the road.

I've never had a 401k, I haven't had insurance for about 4 years. I learned my lesson earlier in life with thinking 'the money won't stop and I'll make more tomorrow so I can blow 2k this weekend.' Now that I am in this hole, I really don't know what to do.

Like do I tell people? Do I tell no one? I've heard get a lawyer, but that's for people who win lotterys. Right? Or no? I'm a bit lost and really could use some guidance here.

Thank you PF.
