There is a very good chance that my wife and I will enter the home buying market in less than a year. We have a fair amount saved up but have both heard different things in regards to how much you should have before buying a house. Most of these are just rules of thumb type of things.
What is a good goal to shoot for when buying a house? Any advice or articles to be pointed towards would be great. The biggest thing we have heard is we need 20% of home price as a down payment. The main reason we have heard this is it then enables you to avoid some sort of insurance or excess payment on-top of the mortgage.
Brand new to this market and would love info for goals to set for savings and preparing for the purchase!
