Hello everyone! I'll get right to it. I am a 23 year old college student (major in Electrical Engineering with a double minor in mathematics and compSci). I have 3 semesters left, but I've gotten myself into a financial pit and I can't get out. I'm thinking of taking a semester off to work full time and get myself together financially and mentally.
Here are my stats:
Rent: 635 Car note: 390 Phone bill: $100 Insurance: $100 Internet: $60 Electric bill: ~$80 CC1: min payment $40, balance of $989 CC2: min payment of $60, balance of $1979 CC3: min payment of $180, balance of 5987, past due one month Dental bill: $50/month, last payment in August Hospital bill: $20/month, balance of $780
I have no health insurance as of April 2017
Now, I do have a little help. My parent help a lot, and my brother will be moving in with me and contributing 50% of rent and utilities.
Parents' contribution:
Car note: 150 Half of all student loans A health insurance plan that costs less than $150 a month Rent as long as I'm in school.
My finances:
I currently make $10.82 an hour, and I work 32 hours a week I am searching for a second job that I can make $200 more a week
My plan (Aug 2017- Jan 2018):
- Get current with credit card #3
- Pay off dental bill
- Pay as much as I can towards CC1
- Start paying towards CC2
And that's as much as I have planned. I know I can't pay off $8000+ of credit card debt in a few months, but I just want to get to a place where I can start saving money again.
Do NOT tell me to ask my parents for more money, they have already agreed to pay for some of my car, my insurance, my rent, and HALF OF ALL STUDENT LOANS, including grad school. They're doing enough. I got myself in this, I have to get myself out.
Point me in the right direction you guys. I don't really know what I'm doing.
