So recently I moved 900 miles away from my college town upon graduation, and was looking to open a credit union account nearby. Unfortunately, when sitting down with a rep to open my account, I was informed that my Equifax report says I have no credit, so I couldn't open an account. I told her this is incorrect, I use NerdWallet to monitor my credit score (which uses TransUnion) and just received my Experian credit report, neither showing anomalies, so if they're able to look at either of those it'd say differently, but she told me to look into my potentially frozen account and shooed me out of her office.
Additionally I should note the only loan I have is my student loan. No credit cards etc, keeping my hands clean as long as I can.
Before I go forth to tackle the beast of trying to get Equifax to release my reports, I was looking to inquire with you brilliant folks on these points:
-Why would they freeze my account when none of the others have/Do they not report student loans? -What is the best way to fix this? Trying to call them or by mail? -Is it weird that the CU wouldn't look into the other reporting agencies? Is it possibly company policy/contract?
As you can tell I'm rather unfamiliar with this sort of stuff. Any advice is appreciated and any more info is needed let me know.
