Hello! I’m debt free and make $136k yearly. I’ve been living in San Diego for the last 5 years and I currently live in an car dependent suburban style neighborhood about 10 miles from the ocean, my lease is up and I need to move.
I have to stay in SD for at least one more year for work. After that I will be moving out of state to a house I own where the mortgage is $1500. I will likely live here for the rest of my life.
This being my last year in San Diego: should I splurge on a fancy 1br apartment in a walkable neighborhood, close to work with a great view of the ocean for $4500? Or get the budget version (no view, no patio, studio space) for $3500? Or should I look for something else all together? Rents are around 3100 for a 1 bedroom in the location I’m interested in.
I will continue to make this salary when I move outside of the area next year. Family currently rents my house in the other state. The other state is nowhere near as cool as San Diego.
edit: I’ve been approved for this place already due to my overall financials. I have ~400k in retirement/savings, union/pension job.
