Hi guys! I've just recently received a Financial Analyst job offer from X company. I made the mistake of disclosing my last-drawn salary (3.8k) to the HR manager during the interview. This will be my second job, hence I did not have extensive knowledge on how I should have approached the question (eg. stating that this information is confidential and deflected it by raising my salary expectations instead.)

The offer message that I've gotten from HR goes like this:-

HR:

This is a new role for you and will provide you good exposure. Salary will be same as your current i.e. 3,800. There will be additional 200 (flexible benefits to cover your medical insurance). After the probation, salary will be reviewed and adjustment and subject to performance.

and this was my response:

Me:

Hi Hiring Manager,

Thank you very much for the offer message and additional information regarding the Company's benefit package. I am so excited about the opportunity to work with the team and to show that I am the ideal fit in the role. The position offers all the aspects that I am looking for. Based upon the time I spent with you and colleague, I can reasonably state that my knowledge and experience will be an asset to the Company.

However, the salary and benefits provided in your above offer message is lower than what I was anticipating. I currently have a higher offer from another firm in regards to compensation and will only consider salaries of around 4.8K per month.

My question is, after my first mistake, how can I approach my next reply as best as possible? I plan to present what other companies are offering to quality employees in this position based off sites like Glassdoor and PayScale. I am also ready to provide logical reasoning to why I deserve the expected compensation such as leveraging my experiences etc. Any other tips on how I can approach my offer as a whole is also much appreciated.

TLDR; disclosed last drawn salary in interview, stated the salary expectations when offered the role, seeking advice on how best to approach my next reply

TIA!
