If you were able to pay off your mortgage early (at least a decade or more), do you regret doing so? If so, why? Lost investment opportunities? Something else?
Backstory:
My wife and I bought an average home in MCOL market, at a low rate (3%), 30-year fixed mortgage. We haven't been in the house long, but dread the idea of paying a mortgage until we retire (or after). I've read every pro/con list there is about the tradeoffs with selling early (lost investment growth, lack of liquidity, etc.). All of the positives ring true for us, including peace of mind that comes with the feeling of not having a mortgage, security of lower monthly costs, etc.
What I haven't read is actual excerpts from a homeowner who has completely regretted the decision to pay off their mortgage early. There are gobs of ppl who tout the positives of the opposite though.
So, do you regret doing so?
I know its a simple question to a hard answer, but humor me...
thanks
