I hope this kind of post is allowed; I really need this community's help!

Our electric bill is estimated to be about $230 by the end of this month, which is insane. We have a 2bd2bth apartment in the hottest state in the US. The biggest part of our unit faces the evening sun, so our whole unit heats up like a furnace in the kitchen, dining room, living room, back door/patio and hallway. Our dining room and front door gets it the worst, and I really want to get a thermal insulated shade of some sort to cover the window, but the problem is our apartment management has a rule that they must "see white" in the window, as our stupid vertical, plastic blinds are white. So I can't cover the window in a film or anything.. unless maybe its white? I'm not sure. I'm up for just doing blackout curtains, but I really don't think they would work as well against the direct sunlight as something else like a film directly on the window. We have blackout curtains in our bedrooms, though, and have them closed 24/7 unless I'm airing out the home during the night.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can lower this? This is our first summer in a 2bd 2bth unit, so we didnt know what our electric bill would look like.

We have our ac set to 74 or 75F, because I get really bad heat flashes and I almost always have a baby wrapped to me so I really can't handle it to be hotter than that, and we have the fans in the living room and our master bedroom running pretty much constantly. We have 1 box fan in our son's room that we use as a sound machine, but I could probably set it up in the living room during the evening.

Please help us!
