My phone has broken (Samsung Galaxy S4) and my insurance would not cover it as it didn't break of a direct action by myself, if I had dropped it down the toilet it would be covered but condensation/water damage from being on a boat for 2 weeks is not covered (a frugal trip, sailing 2 weeks around Iceland for £125 through work).

I called my network (3 in the UK) and they gave me some options for Android phones including the Huawei Honor 5c which I liked the specs of for £25/month on a 2 year contract, half price for 6 months for 4gb data a month and unlimited calls/texts. That's £525 over 2 years or £21.88 a month avg. Not bad so I agreed.

I'm currently on a sim only monthly rolling contract for the same data, mins and texts for £12 a month. Looking around online you can buy this phone for £120 new, add that to my current contract over 2 years is £408 (£17 a month avg). That's a large mark up for a contract phone at £117 extra.

Immediately I called them back and cancelled (you get a cooling off period for contracts) which was suprisingly easy saving myself £100.

Now i'm on the look out for sim only suggestions which cost less too.
