As the title says, my estimated family contribution for the 2019-2020 year is over $19,000, which exceeds my tuition needs. My last years expected contribution was around $5400. In reality I am paying around $3,600 per semester but missing out on this grant would mean I miss out on an extra $2500 a year! I have been paying for my school outright for the last year, with 0 help from my family, declining my FAFSA loans, but still applying in hopes of getting a grant. All of this being said, now that my family contribution has suddenly skyrocketed, I don’t believe I’m eligible for any grants anymore, because my state assumes my family paid for all of my schooling. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue? Maybe file as the sole payer on next FAFSA? I was under the impression that my parents had to fill in their information, but it seems like their income has made it appear that they will pay for my school in the eyes of FAFSA and my school.
