I hope it’s appropriate to post this here. Let me know if not.
Disclaimer: I’m looking to educate myself on this subject so I can be financially responsible. I’m not soliciting tax advice or services.
I’ll start by saying that I’m pretty financially illiterate. I inherited some money that a family member put away when I was a kid and I don’t know much about managing it. I have a financial advisor that I work with but when we talk a lot of what she says goes right over my head. So, I’ve come here to learn more and create a better understanding of how taxes and investments work, as well, what I should look for in my tax return document.
Side note: One thing that’s been on my mind is the idea of hiring a tax professional for this year. However, I have heard mixed reviews from friends and family about whether I need one at my age (24) and financial situation. Last year when I filed my taxes through TurboTax I ended up doing it incorrectly and had to pay the IRS so I’m trying to avoid that.
If you have any knowledge on this subject, please share. Thank you!
