Not sure if this is the correct sub,
I am a healthy 28 year old man. I am currently in a situation where I am saving up for a house with my partner and looking to start a family in the not too distant future. I have considered doing something like this in the past but have travelled quite a bit and haven’t really been in a position where it is possible. I feel like this could be the perfect time before I have a bunch of responsibilities that would prevent me from being able to do this.
From the limited research I’ve done I see that it takes up to three months to recover from a liver transplant and like 6 weeks for a kidney transplant.
I work in construction so I wouldn’t be able to return to work during this time and I am worried about the loss of wages.
Is there some sort of financial compensation for donating an organ? I am not looking to make money from doing it, and I feel kind of selfish for this even being a factor, however I couldn’t really afford to take 6 weeks - 3 months off work.
Has anyone here had any experience in this situation as a donor or a receiver or even a family member of one of those?
Basically I really want to be able to help someone but I am being a little bit selfish by not wanting to lose financial in doing so!
Any help/ advice is appreciated!!
FYI. I am a Scottish immigrant living in the US without health insurance.
