I woke up a few days ago with what seems to be a pinched nerve; the pain finally got so unbearable that I had to go to the ER.

The ER was super busy, and I ultimately ended up waiting in the waiting room for 3 hours before being called back, where the doctors gave me a small cup full of Valium, Advil, and a prescription for muscle relaxers.

The medication hasn’t helped at all, and the only thing I can think to do at this point is go back tomorrow but I cannot stomach another $850 bill for nothing.

Do I really have to pay the initial $850 for what ultimately is a few dollars of medication, simply because I checked in and waited for a few hours? Is there anything that I can do to fight this? Paying $1700 for these two visits could ruin me financially, but so would being fired from my job for not showing up to work because I physically can not move.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can’t tell, this is happening in the terrible medical system based country called the USA.

Edit; yes I have insurance. I just started a new job a few months ago with a new insurance plan, so my deductible has not been hit yet. I believe it’s $2k max. I need to go back and look at the paperwork but I believe I had a 10% copay on a $8,500 bill, which is where the $850 is coming from
