My parents are in their 50s and, barring any catastrophes, still a couple of decades away from needing extra care of any kind. But it occurs to me that I don't know whether they have money put away for retirement, whether/when they plan to retire, what their long term plans are, whether they have a will, and what their expectations are if they ever need long term care.
It seems like something that's probably better to talk about before urgent decisions are needed, but it's not really a conversation I have heard about people having with middle-aged parents.
When is a good time to bring it up? What topics should I make sure to cover? What needs to be in writing? How can I make sure that they and I are financially and logistically prepared?
Also, how to negotiate long term support and care responsibilities with siblings?
