I imagine this is a pretty typical post this time of year, but I just don't see how this can be accurate. My wife and I have never owed taxes, and have always received a refund. 2017 was no different than the 5 years previous to it. We pulled our figures straight off the forms we received and used Turbotax. Our 2017 refund was very similar to the refunds in the past. It was nothing extravagant that made us question whether we filed correctly or not. It was certainly less than the 8K they are asking for. My wife is an elementary school teacher and I'm in customer service for an insurance company. Our combined income is close to the poverty line. We have some investments from inheritance that we have had to cash out to stay afloat, but this has been the case for the previous 5 years as well and we have always gotten a refund . I'm currently on hold with the IRS. I am wondering who to turn to and what my options are.
