My dad who is a very hardworking man had a stroke this morning. Unfortunately my parents, although very hardworking haven’t made the best financial choices throughout their lives.

We live in a smallish area so he was going to have to be moved to a larger city hospital. I knew this was going to put a ton of financial stress on my mom, having to get a hotel, eating out, and all the other things that come with an extended medical emergency away from home.

Thankfully I have been saving and investing a majority of my income for the last decade or so because I saw how much stress financial insecurity can cause. I also travel for work so I have thousands and thousands of hotel points saved up.

This morning I transferred 50,000 Best Western points to my mom(the maximum allowed in one day) and gave her my Amex card and told her to use it for whatever she needs. The last thing she needs is more stress.

The look of relief that came across her face was indescribable.

I can’t quite describe how it made me feel, after years and years of my parents taking care of me, being in a financial situation were I am able to return the favor and care for them at the drop of a hat with no worry whatsoever was such a relief. All my diligent saving and investing, driving older cars, not splurging on the unneeded things was finally paying off. Not only am I financially secure enough for myself, I can extend that to my family.

I just wanted to share for anyone that might need some motivation.

Keep at it, it is worth it in so many ways you couldn’t possibly imagine.
