My job at a fast food restaurant used to have waitresses but since covid we’re employed as cashiers. Currently I make $9.50 and hour(SC Highschooler). But recently we got a new corporate manager. They’re expanding the dining room and expect us to do a waitress job while getting the same pay. Like taking the order from the table instead of the register, folding silverware in a cloth, etc. They’re doing this to make sales higher since no one in our area is doing the same thing as of right now.
My issue is too us cashiers will be doing this work mainly and the tips are split between everyone in the store. Including managers who make more than us all. So even if you had nothing to do with the order you would still get a tip. Is it just me or is that a bit unfair? When I started the job it wasn’t like this and for me its an easy job since Its not my first and I’m a pretty decent cashier. I just don’t know how I feel about added on work with no compensation. On top of that my manager did say our pay wouldn’t change because I did ask.
