Within the last 7 years, I've reached my highest earning years at a company I've been with for 19 years. If I stay until I retire (10+ years), it's very likely I will be just fine retirement wise. Only problem is that I no longer like what I do (been working in same lane for 13 of the 19 years), it's stressful and I have no desire to stay in same industry except for the pay.

I've been planning to leave for over 2 years, but decided to stick it out when Covid hit and prepared myself financially to sustain without having to work for at least 1 year--I live well below my means and have about 45% of what I was hoping to have for retirement (I started saving late).

The time has come to make the final decision to leave and give myself a couple of months to reset--I am burned out! After that, I have plans to switch careers to something I'm very interested in trying; have already been learning. It'll be a challenge and I will be starting over, but I am excited to try (even as fear creeps in and out).

Letting go of the paycheck is the last thing. Why is this so hard?

What would you do?

Thank you.
