I consider myself a fairly frugal person. I’m also pretty introverted and spend most of my free time at home enjoying my hobbies. For years, I have used this as an excuse to spend excessive money on various streaming services.
With the recent Netflix rate increase announcement, I decided it was time to whittle down my subscriptions and I cancelled 6 different services as follows:
Netflix - $19.99/mo HBO Max - $14.99/mo Apple TV+ - $4.99/mo Sundance - $4.99/mo Epix - $6.99/mo Discovery+ - $7.99/mo
This will save me $59.94 a month or $719.28 per year!
The truth is, I’m not even a huge movie/tv buff. I spend most of my time gaming, reading, working out or painting. I subscribed to most of these services because they offered one or two of my favorite shows or I started a free trial to watch a specific show or movie and forgot to cancel the service.
I got rid of cable when Hulu first came out back in 2008 to save money and literally set my desk up in the living room so that I could watch Hulu on my computer monitor from my couch. I can’t believe I let my subscriptions get out of control for this long but am glad I’ve got it back down to a reasonable 2 streaming services at under $20/month.
How many streaming services do you have? How much do you spend a month? If you have Netflix are you planning to cancel because of the rate hike on March 8th?
