So I just learned that my friend had this experience:
- Go to Dr to get nasal spray prescription renewed
- Regular Dr. A is out - but hey you can use Dr. B, and unlike Dr. A, he doesn't even need an office visit to renew!
- Nice! But I actually have some questions anyway, so let's just do an office visit
- Office visit: Renewed prescription, answered questions, "and I'm going to check your nose here..."
- Learn after the fact - that quick check was a "surgery" (endoscopy), and bam: $550 additional charge for endoscopy
Searching the forum - seems like their option is to just eat it. And that this is normal in US medical settings. Though I'd argue normal != right, and regardless, normal in a US medical setting != normal in the grander sense.
Accurate though, that there are no options to try?
Reason Asking: Though I'm not personally involved, it feels like a 'principle of the thing'. i.e. I don't expect a $30 oil change to become a $580 oil change because the mechanic decided to, with no requested OK upfront - or mention that it was a separately billed item, listen to my alternator, and I didn't actively stop him or her.
