I got a phone call over the weekend from a woman I had never spoken to. She said her mother got some artwork from me done about 10 years ago. I did not charge her at the time and I can't quite remember why, but the daughter said this act of kindness inspired her to leave a significant amount of money for me in her will (6 figures).
The strange part is that the mother died in 2013, and her daughter is now only able to access the will as her brother was holding it, and now he has died, in what she said could have been a murder.
I do not quite know what to make of this. She said the will reading will be in a few months and that she will reach out to me again before that.
Is this a scam? I couldn't find anything about this type of scam online. Is it normal for a will reading to occur 8 years after the person has deceased if a loved one is keeping it?
Of course, I would be more than happy to accept this gesture, but I also do not want to get into any trouble myself.
