So for the last 4 years I've been attending university and was anticipated to graduate this coming spring...after some chronic illness, mental illness, and a reevaluation of my values and goals in life, I have decided to switch my major and I am basically a sophomore again. However with exclusively online learning being my only option and my desire to get some therapy (and direction in my life), I decided that I would not be attending school this semester.
As you may be guessing from the title, this did not go over very well with my parents! (Just me taking a semester off, they were totally on board with the change of major). Basically, I've been told that I have until May to get out of the house. I will be dropped from their car and health insurance policies and I will pick up all applicable bills (phone, rent to live in their house until may, etc.). To make things more unfortunate, my current job has just instated their winter hours, so I am only being scheduled around 29 hours a week for $11.50 an hour.
I do not have a savings account (sorry) but my checking has about $6000 in it currently. I am trying to find a second job for the time being or another job entirely (full time).
My boyfriend WILL be graduating in May and we were planning on moving somewhere down south (most likely NC) so he would have access to better job opportunities. We are currently living in PA and it seems as though housing there is much cheaper than anything around us. I don't know how I am going to make the move (or if I even will be able to anymore) , but if we do, I am absolutely determined to never be a financial burden.
Side note: I DO want to earn my degree. The only positive I've taken out of this is that since I am starting over almost from scratch, I am not bound to continue my education at my current university.
Honestly, I am just feeling overwhelmed and lost as to where to start. Making a list of finances seems the most obvious start, but now I need to start looking into insurance policies and whatnot to even plan for how much living will cost. I am looking for ANY kind of advice on where to go, what to do, and how to start dealing with this.
