Hello,
I will try to make this as short as possible. I moved out of an apartment (corporate complex) on 11/5. I have my paperwork signed by that apartment stating they agreed to the 11/5 date. Today I receive a bill from a collection agency stating I owe rent from 11/6-11/10. I never even received a bill that gave me a chance to dispute this with the complex directly, the first correspondence I received was from the collection agency. I am going to send a certified letter to the collection agency asking to verify that debt ASAP.
I have worked hard to get my credit score up and am SO frustrated right now. I assume the fact that it went to collections at all means it will be on my credit report now? What happens if the complex cannot verify this debt, does it remain on my credit report? What happens if the complex "verifies" this debt because their records show I moved out on 11/10 instead of 11/5 even if I have a document showing my vacate date as 11/5. I am frustrated and don't know where to go from here. Should I contact an attorney? Any constructive feedback would be appreciated.
(I am currently in Tennessee but the apartment complex in question is in Georgia)
