I got our garbage bill the other day and decided to do some price shopping, as our neighborhood is served by several companies. I got a quote from another company that was slightly lower than my current rate, with larger bins to boot.
I called my company, mentioned the other quote, and asked if they could make me a better offer. They ended up agreeing to deliver a larger bin and lower my rate, saving me ~$100 for the next year.
We've been with them for a few years, but many companies will make retention offers to keep you as a customer (my mom did this regularly with their TV provider). Tell them you're price shopping or considering canceling to save money and see what they tell you. It obviously helps to have other options, but worst case you're out 15 minutes on the phone. Good luck!
