These are warehouses, usually in major cities, that just put unsorted donations out on carts, selling it all for a fixed price per pound. St Louis has two such outlets, bigger cities probably have more. There is no rhyme or reason to the carts of stuff - iPhone chargers mixed in with hoodies, toys, and camping gear. No organized racks or shelves. I paid $13, or $1.19 a pound, for a bulging shopping cart full of stuff.

As we are frugal with space as well as money, we committed to jettisonning an equal volume of stuff from our closets. Out went two hoodies covered in stains and holes, several pairs of unloved shoes, some Christmas decorations and a kerosene lantern we'll never use, and some papers I don't know why we kept in the first place.
