My apartment gets up to 90+ Fahrenheit in the summers without any cooling solutions, so I am looking for something that will at least cool my bedroom which is approximately 275 square feet.

A window unit seemed like the best option, but my window is a bit non-standard..it opens from side-to-side (as opposed to up and down), and the maximum width it opens to is around 20.5 inches, but it's also about 45 inches tall. So even if I could install a window unit, there would be a giant gap above it which I wouldn't know how to cover easily to deter bugs, which there are a ton of here (and perhaps burglars since I live on the ground floor?). I also rent so I am not allowed to construct "permanent" changes (but minor work such as drilling small holes is okay). The bottom of the window is also shaped awkwardly so that a unit wouldn't really be able to rest on it, since there's no window sill outside of the window so the unit would just fall outside unless it could remain perfectly balanced on a thin frame that sticks out from the bottom. Here is a photo of my window: https://i.imgur.com/uhxU0wb.jpg The part of the window sill that is indoors which you can see in the photo is about 4" sticking out from the window frame itself.

Budget is preferably <$500 USD but that is a soft limit considering this sub as I would expect a solution that would last for the foreseeable future and this would be a good investment to keep myself comfortable (as well as my computer equipment which can also generate some significant heat).

What options do I have as a cooling solution for my bedroom, even if it is not an air conditioner?
