Hi all,
So here’s a long and weird question. My grandmother is 90. She’s deaf. She also has just found out that her kidneys are failing and the doctors have basically told her to “make your preparations”. My grandma mailed me, and some other family members $30,000 each. She’s very clearly still mentally stable and things, but she has in her will that we get some money yearly and she wanted to give some to us early before she passed away.
Long story short, I deposited the check at chase bank into my checking account. The teller told me the check had an extended hold, which made sense. Two days later, no money posted at all, so I called chase to ask how long the hold was as I had simply forgotten. The lady kept telling me she was “trying to make the funds available to me” which wasn’t what I was asking, I just wanted to know the date the hold expired. The lady kept saying she needed to speak to my grandmother. I was overly confused, the person on the phone at chase had no idea what was going on and I simply said, it’s fine. Never mind. Have a good night. I then tried to buy dinner tonight at a restaurant and my card was declined. Really odd, as I had money in my account from my salary from work; called chase again, to find my account was restricted and they couldn’t do anything until they spoke to my grandmother and I had to go to a branch. She has no phone and I can’t go to a branch until Monday.
Did I mess up here? What do I do?
