Hello, we are about to move into my grandparents home which was built in 1978. My understanding is that asbestos could be present in many parts of homes built during this time (they do have a popcorn ceiling so my assumption is that it is present there). My question is how concerned we should be if we want to remodel the kitchen and master bathroom down the road, which would likely involve knocking down walls/refinishing the ceiling? As in, are all of our future projects going to involve some level of asbestos testing/removal (drywall, floors, etc?) Should I be concerned about testing for it in every aspect of the home? The floorplan right now has an extremely dark, tiny kitchen and very small master bathrooms so it would definitely have to be updated if we ever wanted to resell it.For that matter, if we want to do something simple such as changing out light fixtures, is asbestos ceiling an concern there?I see a bunch of people renovating homes from the 1970's and no one seems overly concerned about this particular issue. Just wondering if I'm being way overcautious. I know that it is only a risk of disturbed, but obviously knocking down walls and remodeling would be considered "disturbing."I should mention that at one point they did have a wall professionally removed in the past 15 or so years, and have also installed newer laminate flooring and carpet, but no one can seem to find the paperwork for it.Thanks for any insight! via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2WB0QW0
