Hi I had small fire next to my house and have undertaken the task to clean it up . The siding is some kind of plaster/paper sandwiched together like drywall made to look like wood I am not sure what it is .I used TSP and other degreasers to try and wash it off . I had luck in the areas farthest from the fire and managed to clean them nicely but the section of window trim and siding near the fire is still black/brown after long hours of cleaning/scrubbing . I am not sure if pressure washing would be next step or even sanding .? Since the siding has a fake wood grain texture I’m not sure I can do too much sanding .Near the heat source the paint has bubbled. I scraped that off with a putty knife but didn’t go too aggressive on it . I can see old paint where the bubbles were. Do I continue scraping the off or do I just fill the holes with some putty ?For the fake wood siding what’s a good product to fill in holes ? A little one inch section broke off near the bottom when i pulled the fence post and need to fill it in with some joint compound or something more heavy duty .Finally for the primer do I go with an oil based primer like killz specifically designed to block smoke stains ? The paint that was on last was latex based. There is a lot of questions here! Yikes! Anyway appreciate any tips /advice . The job is exterior so I’m probably thinking about it too much as I won’t be looking at it every day. Here is a picture: Fire damage .Thanks . via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Fv1CN6
