My husband and I love avocados. I’ve made the same simple recipe for guacamole for years - it’s one my dad made when I was growing up. But we all know avocados can be so expensive! I discovered last fall that my local Sprouts has a sale a few times a year where avocados are 3 for $1!! I bought 15 last fall, made guacamole, and froze it.
They are having the same sale this weekend. My husband and I bought 18 avocados, 5 jalapeños, 5 limes, and 3 large yellow onions for $7.94 (after using his college ID card for a 15% discount and after the $0.25 deduction for using a reusable bag). So cheap!! I’m stoked to make my guacamole!!!
Recipe for if you find avocados on sale!! (I’ve never written it down before and usually just play it by ear, so please improvise and add more/less of the ingredients to your liking)
4-6 avocados, smashed; 1 jalapeño, diced small (with seeds for some spice); 3 garlic cloves, minced; 1 small yellow onion, diced; Salt and pepper; Lime(s)
Mix all together, add lime to taste. Too much lime and it will turn a little bitter. I like to mash the avocado and add salt/pepper/lime BEFORE I add any of the vegetables (tasting as I add things) so I can make sure to get it right.
