I am a middle school special education teacher in an extremely low income district (>80% poverty rate). I feed most of my students, and provide them food to take home. It can get expensive! The school does have a Friday food bag program, but there are not enough to go around, and nothing during the week.
I’m looking for some more ideas for quick and easy snacks I can keep in the room as well as foods that they can take home. The students have to be able to make it themselves (very little parent involvement). The food also needs to be shelf stable (some of my students have to keep it hidden so they can eat it). Most of them have access to a microwave. Some also take for siblings.
I do prefer to try to get as many nutrients as I can, not just empty carbs/sugar. The students do get free breakfast/lunch.
Here’s what I have right now: Peanut butter crackers Fruit cups Mac n cheese Cup noodles Oatmeal Pastry crisps Trail mix Pudding Peanut butter Fruit roll ups Granola bars
Any ideas would be really helpful! I’m feeding a lot of kids, and while I don’t mind and would rather them eat, it can get expensive! I have my only income to work with (single, no kids).
Also, they don’t like Chef Boyardee 😄
