To preface and paint more of a picture for you all, the surgery I mention above is orthognathic, I live in New Zealand where health care is well funded but dentistry is not as it is classified at cosmetic, not medical. I have never had health insurance as I've never needed it with NZ's healthcare system. I've only recently found out about the surgery because no-one has ever mentioned it existed and was an option. My jaw misalignment causes breathing trouble and is wearing away some of my teeth, hence I use the word "need", not "want".

From what I know so far I have the option of paying $8000 in monthly installments over 18 months, which is manageable with help from my parents. The remaining $18000 will likely be required in 12 months time up front.

I'm studying a pretty intense course and a part time job is out of the question but I do plan on getting a summer job in between school years. Otherwise I'm receiving $230 a week from student loans which is eaten up by my rent ($150/w) and living costs ($80/w for food/power/internet/phone). In October I will start receiving a government allowance of $250/w which I intend on putting towards the $18000.

How can I pay for this?
