I’ve recently gotten a job delivering take out from multiple restaurants in the city. Think Uber Eats, but on a smaller local scale. I’m technically an independent contractor, so my boss told me I’m only required to report the base pay I get for each delivery run. She said that any tips I receive, cash or credit, don’t need to be reported since she doesn’t keep any records.
This sounds kind of odd to me and feel like I should report all of the tips I make when I do my taxes. Am I wrong? Right? Help.
