I went in for a routine, preventative, annual procedure a few months ago. Being a noob at this I called my insurance (to get and idea of what I’m looking at money wise) and was reassured several times that they would fully cover it.

A few weeks later I get a bill for $149... call my insurance who email the doctor, nothing. Call the clinic and told I need to send a written dispute. Best case scenario it’s reduced, worst case scenario I pay (emergency fund on standby!) Letter could not have been more than 3 lines of text combined.

Fast forward 3 months after the doctors visit, 2 months after mailing in my dispute, and the doctor ”changed the code” and I am off the hook for $149!

People here like to say it doesn’t hurt to call and haggle and I can attest to that! Also, check with your insurance :)
