When filing my taxes this year, I realized that I owe $1600 in taxes! Yippie! I get $200 for my state return, which is going right toward paying it off. So, let's call it $1400.
I already have a plan to pay it off by the time I file and get my bill toward the end of April. Before overtime, I earn $1700 per month. Any given month, it's usually $2000 per month. Overtime at my job is optional, but you better believe that I've been taking all the overtime I can get since being slammed by debt.
I pay $600-$700 in rent, thankfully, since I live in an affordable area. I have a car payment, insurance, phone, prescriptions, student loan, various expenses, etc, but I consistently have about $700 in "expendable" income each month.
I used to spend that extra money on various things for my family, or I'd save it. Last year I took a major hit financially and my savings dwindled from 7k down to 2k. I splurged a ton last year moving and furnishing my current apartment.
I already went ahead and cancelled most of my subscription plans, only keeping Netflix and Hulu/Spotify since it comes to like $20 per month and I don't have cable. I was going to work on building my savings back up and paying the $950 I owe on my credit card down, but since I am gainfully employed and haven't touched my savings in months, and my credit card doesn't start accruing interest until August, I'm not as worried...
Either way, I need to start tightening up the budget in any way I can. Any advice? I was looking at finding a part time job but my work schedule is so hectic that it's hard to set up interviews. I signed up to donate plasma last weekend.
