This is gonna sound like a hail corporate post, I’m sorry. But I am just so excited! After seeing commercials for Mint, I decided to look into it. Rather than paying every month, you pay for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months at a time. This bulk approach makes their plans much cheaper (kinda like the Costco of cell phone plans). All of their plans come with unlimited minutes and texts, the only thing you pay more for is the amount of data you want. You also bring your own phone. On their website you can enter your IMEI (I think that’s what it’s called) and it will tell you if your phone is compatible. You might just need to call your carrier and get it unlocked. Mine was already unlocked from when I switched from T Mobile to Cricket about a year ago.

I was hesitant at first because the most data they offer is 10 gb per month. I use music streaming whenever I’m in the car so I was worried. But I calculated my GB used every month from my Cricket statements and i average about 6. So for 10 gb a month, it’s $300 for one year (breaks down to about $25 a month). Meanwhile with cricket I was paying $60 per month for unlimited everything. Since Mint already comes with unlimited texts and minutes, I was basically paying an extra $35 a month for unlimited data.

I took advantage of their Black Friday sale which offered 3 months of service with 5 gb of data for $20. I got the SIM card in the mail today. Switching over was INCREDIBLY easy. I have the iPhone 6, for reference. I went to their website and entered the activation code. You can choose to keep your old number or get a new one. I chose to keep my old number. So I entered my Cricket account number, zip code, and PIN and then put the new SIM card in my phone.

All in all transferring the number took MAYBE 10 minutes. It’s taken days before with other companies. From start to finish set up took about 15 minutes. All the carrier settings automatically updated for me. I’ve been using my phone ever since, with no issues. I do not have service in my office at work but nobody there does, it’s like a dead zone so that’s not a big issue for me.

Anyway, if you’re considering switching over to Mint, I highly recommend you give it a shot. I’m going from paying $720 a year to $300. My boyfriend is thinking about switching and will save over $900 a year.

EDIT: I also looked up reviews of Mint before switching and they were generally positive.
