Hi all. I just bought a small house. I'm pretty handy and can do almost all of my own work. I'm planning on finishing (or semi-finishing) my basement and was looking for suggestions or good sources of info.I have a 915 sqft house with a full size basement with 7' ceilings (measured from floor to joist). It was built in 1973. I want to reclaim the basement and build an office, laundry room, and a living/TV room. The basement is poured cement and is in great shape.I am on a bit of a budget but I want to do the job right over the next few months.I've already repaired the septic pipe penetration, the chimney foundation seams, and all cracks with hydraulic cement. The basement is dry and dehumidified constantly.I painted every surface with drilock extreme and did 3-4 coats depending on how porous the cement was.I just glued 1" xpe foam board on all outside facing walls and plan on using drilock subfloor panels to later install a snap in laminate floor.I'm planning on building walls and partitions from 2x4 and lagging them to the floor with tapcon screws. What should I use to keep the baseboard dry? I'm afraid the contact with concrete will raise issues later on. I know I shouldn't use pressure treated inside, is there another option or a specific vapor barrier I should look for?I plan on using fiberglass insulation between studs to get around R20 for the basement. I'm going to run the electrical through the walls to code, but I'll have my electrician friend inspect and help terminate everything before I put up subgrade drywall everywhere. I'll have the building inspector come in before I do too much more work too... And a structural engineer to see if I can put in beam supports to eliminate a few lally columns.Am I missing anything that is glaringly obvious to someone more experienced? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2SBdG4j
